About
Launched in 2021, The IROHA is a monthly digital magazine spotlighting Japanese leaders making an impact in global affairs, media, business, culture, food, design, art, music, film, fashion, and architecture across North America.
The name "IROHA" draws inspiration from a historic Japanese pangram created over 1,000 years ago, composed of all the basic hiragana characters. The term also reflects the spirit of community and mutual aid, as embodied by the 48 groups of volunteer firefighters during the Edo period who united to help one another in times of crisis. This blend of tradition and modernity underscores our mission to connect and celebrate individuals shaping today’s world.
Our nominating committee, comprised of experts across fields such as art, architecture, business, academia, medicine, music, film, and fashion, identifies remarkable leaders to feature in interviews and stories. Once nominated, individuals are invited to exclusive dinners and lunches hosted in various cities, creating opportunities to connect with and inspire others. Each year, we proudly present the IROHA Award to individuals who have tirelessly worked to foster collaboration, mutual support, and community-building.
As an independent initiative with no commercial purpose, IROHA exists to celebrate and elevate the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and shared growth across borders and industries.
